About Our Team
Dr David Horan, “Dr Dave”, Veterinarian and Pet Care Educator/ Trainer, has been a TAFE Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing and Animal Care for over 25 years.
Dr Dave has had dual careers in Veterinary Science and Animal Care was well as in Education and Training at all levels from junior high school to University. He is a qualified and experienced Veterinary Surgeon (30 years) working in a wide range of clinical situations on three continents and currently operating the longest running Mobile Veterinary Service in the Sydney Basin (vet2u.net).
At the same time Dr Dave has had an educational career (40 years) as a Science and Maths teacher initially and then as an Animal Care Lecturer in TAFE NSW.
Dr Dave actually set up the Animal Care Section at Richmond TAFE College, now that Animal Science Academy, in 1994 and ran the section for some years. In his time he developed the entire suite of TAFE courses that are still offered there.
TAFE even awarded him the TAFE/DEC Medal for “Service to Students” for Dr Dave’s tireless work for public education.
The NSW Teachers Federation also awarded him their Retirement Pin for his “contribution in promoting the quality of education and the welfare of (your) fellow teachers“
Dr Dave left TAFE NSW in 2015 expressly to establish the Animal Care Academy. Dr Dave wanted to establish a training academy that is truly student focussed and offering only pet and animal care courses and face-to-face training.
We have grown from strength to strength to now being a leading Animal Care Training Centre.
